The water has always called to me...
How can I share what I’m feeling with the world?
I've been making art my entire life, starting with my first pastel classes on the lake at five, catching bluegills on line and old gum from the trash can after class. I graduated from UTSA College of Architecture where I leaned on my talents and experience to draw and render my way through, studying in Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy along the way.
At 35, I'm coming from a career in Architecture and construction having built and remodeled numerous exquisite architectural residences. The observation, precision, and attention to detail that bringing fine architecture to life demands carries directly into my work.
I work primarily in oils and gouache, on location and in the studio. Inspiration comes from what I've experienced firsthand, drawing from the focus that comes when you're dropping down a rig leg above an unsuspecting cubera snapper, staying in position at Horace Caldwell pier on an epic 10’ hurricane swell, sight-casting to shallow redfish, or the way the early morning light looks filtered through fifty feet of clear water.
My four-year-old daughter loves the water and exploring the ocean's inhabitants. Watching her discover these places reminds me of my own excitement and curiosity, and keeps me in tune with those moments when you realize how much beauty exists in the spaces between action and stillness, in the details that make the whole experience worth remembering. My mission through my artwork is to inspire others to experience the water the way I have, understand it’s importance to all of us on earth, and maybe even take a small step towards not just preserving what is left, but towards leaving things a little better than we found it.
